Gazprom Armenia employee became a donor to a Canadian leukemia patient
The employee of CJSC Gazprom Armenia Gayane Ayvazyan became a donor to a Canadian patient with leukemia as a result of cooperation between the Company’s Trade Union Organization of Workers and the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
A few years ago, in cooperation with the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry the Trade Union Organization of Workers of CJSC Gazprom Armenia organized a blood donation campaign for potential stem cell donors. About 800 employees of the Company under the age of 50 volunteered to donate blood to the Registry.
The participants of the campaign were given individual genetic codes, which were entered into the database, thanks to which a donor can be found in the National Donor Registry if necessary.
According to the representatives of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry, Gayane agreed to help with great enthusiasm and willingness. The procedure of taking stem cells was successfully completed the day before, after transplantation of which the Canadian patient will be able to overcome the serious illness.
As the representatives of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry noted, the Registry registered its next success in the field of international cooperation.
The Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry has joined the International Bone Marrow Donor Organization and is a full member of the World Bone Marrow Donor Association.
